Can I share my story with you?

Maybe you can relate…

I was first sent to a nutritionist when I was 11 years old. I was given a meal plan (aka a diet) to follow. I was weighed to check my progress.

I spent the next decade going from dietitian to nutritionist - becoming more obsessed with my weight.

The more I tried to 'be good' so I would weigh less, the harder it became. I would lose weight but always regain it - plus more.

I'd 'eat well' during the day but end up eating all the foods I wasn't allowed after dinner - often when no one was looking.

It felt like every Monday I was starting again from scratch.

“I tried every diet, plan and program out there.
They never worked”.

Instead of helping, dieting made me feel crazy around food! I even started binge eating, which made me feel like a failure.

The (inevitable) breaking point came for me in 2011, standing in front of a change room mirror while trying on clothes.

I realised I didn’t want to spend the rest of my life obsessed with trying to weigh less and hating my body. I wanted food to become just food again not something that was ‘good’ or ‘bad.

So instead of listening to all the so-called wellness gurus with their detoxes, activated bits-and-bobs and ‘healthy lifestyle plans’ (that were really just restrictive diets in disguise’), I decided to try an easy, gentler and ultimately - much better - approach.

I stopped counting points, calories. and weighing myself. For the first time in my life, I only did exercise for enjoyment- not as punishment for eating. And my world started to change.

I didn’t change dramatically overnight. The changes were gradual - but long lasting. With the right approach, I ended up completely changing my relationship with food. I learned how to stop binge eating and learned to listen to my body instead of diet noise.

“I finally felt normal around food.
And comfortable in my body.”

I ended up losing 20kg but this turned out to be just an added bonus. Now I have so much more head space to think of things other than food.

There is a much better alternative to dieting - no rules or expensive superfoods needed (thank goodness)!

I’m a dietitian and a nutritionist. And because of my personal experience, I won’t give you some silly one-size-fits-all meal plan.

I don’t want you to struggle with food - or sacrifice 95% of your life to weight 5% less. I want to help you feel good in your body.

I can’t offer you a quick fix. Those don’t work. But what I do is based on evidence, and it works.

Now, I’m also a Media Nutritionist & TV Dietitian

The best way to drown out nutrition nonsense is to be louder, right?

I love being a media nutritionist and TV dietitian because it means I get to reach way more people than just my mum.

I’m pretty darn lucky to be a regular nutritionist on Channel 9’s TODAY show and I also provide regular comment for Australia’s biggest publications like news.com.au, body+soul, SMH, Mamamia and more.

You may have seen me on:

Let’s be honest. There’s a lot of misinformation out there.

As an Australian TV dietitian and media nutritionist, I get to help drown out the wellness wankery with common sense and scientific data.
